SLIDE THE BAR IN THE CENTER TO REVEAL THE BEFORE & AFTER
BEFORE While attractive and clean, the dark bedspread with the sleigh bed and oriental rug was making the space feel small and dense, and a little too traditional for the modern buyer.
AFTER Changing the bedding to bright white, adding a soft blue accent with a throw pillow and new art, and removing the rug all brightened the space and helped it to appear larger, lighter, and more modern.
BEFORE Rectangular rooms present a challenge all of their own, but this one lacked a central focus, and was too heavy with personal objects and storage to give a buyer a real sense of how they could use this space.
AFTER Removing the tall bookcases really lightened up the room, and allowed for a more comfortable seating area to be brought in. Neutral modern art was added, existing furniture and lighting was reused in a new way—and suddenly the room felt spacious and grand.
BEFORE While effective as a dining room, the traditional style of furniture matched with the brick wall was making the room appear small and a bit too traditional. The room seemed under-utilized and also like it lacked a real purpose as there was another dining area already in the home.
AFTER Realizing this was an opportunity to showcase this as a flex room/office (which is always in high-demand) we removed the dining furniture and created a dual workstation along the brick wall, giving the room a strong focus and making it feel more fun, hip and modern. Editing the plants down brought in more light, while adding a cozy chair and rug and a colorful piece of art created a dream work-from-home lifestyle in the minds of potential buyers.
BEFORE While a great example of a real-life family room in action, we knew this room would not translate well to photography or showings. Buyers want to see themselves in a space, and while fun, the wall color was overpowering and the room was way too full of the current homeowners' personal possessions. They had all the right pieces to work with, it just needed to be rearranged and edited down a bit!
AFTER Moving the furniture more into the center of the room created a cozier arrangement, as well as the sense of a larger space, by carving out a walkway behind the sofa. Repainting the walls a light neutral color brought out the warmth in the floor and brightened the space overall, allowing the media center to become a strong focal point.
BEFORE Here’s another great example of a room that’s very stylish and personal, but wouldn’t translate well to photography or to potential buyers. While the room had a lot of nice pieces, it didn’t feel very cohesive or cozy, and the piano was taking up too much of the room’s focus. Plus, the large dark rug was hiding the floor and making the room feel smaller than it was.
AFTER Demoting the piano to a side wall allowed for a cozy and comfy sofa to be brought in as well as a smaller-scale neutral rug. Repainting the space a light gray, removing the decorative painted trim around the opening, and editing the art made the space appear lighter, brighter, and more contemporary overall.
